Why Your Roofing Company Isn't Showing Up on Google

Why Your Roofing Company Isn’t Showing Up on Google (And How to Fix It)

If you search your city and don’t see your roofing business on Google, you’re losing jobs every single day to competitors who figured this out.

After working exclusively with roofing companies on their SEO, we’ve identified the same 5 reasons over and over again. Here they are with a fix for each one.

Reason 1: Your Google Business Profile Is Not Optimized

Google’s map pack those 3 business listings at the top of local searches is prime real estate. But to show up there, your Google Business Profile needs to be fully built out and active. Most roofing companies either haven’t claimed it or set it up once and forgot it.

Quick Fix: Go to business.google.com. Make sure your business name, address, phone, service areas, hours, and categories are complete. Upload at least 10 real project photos. Post an update once a week.

Reason 2: Your Website Has No Local Keywords

If your website says ‘professional roofing services’ without mentioning your city, Google has no idea who to show your site to. Local keywords like ‘roof replacement in Houston’ need to appear in your page titles, headings, and body text.

Quick Fix: Go to your homepage right now. Make sure your city appears in the page title, the H1 heading, and at least 3-4 times in the body text.

Reason 3: You Have No Reviews Or They’re Old

Google uses review quantity, recency, and quality as a direct ranking factor. A roofing company with 80 reviews will almost always outrank one with 12. If your last review was 18 months ago, Google treats that as a warning sign.

Quick Fix: After every completed job, send the homeowner a direct link to your Google review page via text. Even 2-3 new reviews per month will compound powerfully over time.

Reason 4: Your Website Is Slow and Not Mobile-Friendly

Over 70% of roofing searches happen on a smartphone. If your website takes more than 3 seconds to load on mobile, Google actively pushes your site down in rankings and homeowners click away before reading a word.

Quick Fix: Test your site at pagespeed.web.dev. If your mobile score is below 70, your website is costing you rankings. Compressing images is usually the fastest fix.

Reason 5: No Blog Content or Backlinks

Google ranks websites it trusts. Trust comes from quality content and other websites linking to yours. Most roofing websites have neither just a homepage, services page, and contact form. Your competitors who ARE ranking publish blog posts regularly and earn links from local directories and industry blogs.

Quick Fix: Start a blog and publish one post per week targeting questions homeowners search for. Each post builds authority that compounds over time.

The Bottom Line

None of these problems are permanent. Every single one is fixable often within weeks, not months. The roofing companies dominating Google in your city didn’t get there by accident. They had someone who knew exactly what levers to pull.
